Bush Guitarist Becomes A Father, Band Continues Touring With Fill-In

(3/13/02, 5 p.m. ET) -- Bush is on a tour of the United States that hits New York's Hammerstein Ballroom Thursday night (March 14), even as guitarist Nigel Pulsford has been home celebrating the birth of his new son. The band has hired former Helmet guitarist Chris Trainor to serve as Pulford's replacement for the tour.

Pulsford let fans know about his new son on the Bush website. "I just wanted y'all to be the first to know that Judith had a beautiful baby boy last Thursday afternoon (March 7)," wrote the guitarist. "Everything went well and mother and son are doing fine and back home making the world a safer place for me. His name is Oscar and like his father he is tall, lean, and extraordinarily handsome. The tour seems to be going well. It sounds like Chris is doing an incredible job bringing something special to the role and allowing [Bush bassist] Dave Parsons to beat him at Fifa 2002. Something I had to do for years."

Pulsford added, "I've got to say it feels strange being here and reading about the gigs, but now I'm thinking about our German shows in May which will, I think, be my first shows back unless anything else is slotted in before. I've just got to figure a way to see Neil Young who plays the night after us! It's nice to have the shows to look forward to, but until then it's the family life and even less sleep than on tour."

Rockers Bush To Tour In March

Modern rockers Bush will embark upon a month-long American tour in support of their latest album, Golden State, beginning February 28 in Denver. The tour, will cover 22 cities and hit theater-sized venues, culminating April 2 in San Francisco.

Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale was asked by LAUNCH if last year's terror attacks and the war in Afghanistan has affected the way he approaches the road. Rossdale said his fiancee, No Doubt's Gwen Stefani, was more affected than him and his band. "I refuse to let it change the way we travel...You have to stand up to this, and you can't...Gwen is worried about this stuff, and, really, we've had a couple of moments where she's just been pretty tearful about it and, like, what's going to happen. I'm like, 'Whatever is going to happen, you're not changing it. You're not affecting it.'"

No Doubt currently has two dates on its itinerary: January 23 at Scala in London and February 26 at the Long Beach Arena at the Concerts For Artist Rights with the Offspring and Weezer.

Bush Map Out 22-City Tour Outing to kick off February 28 in Denver.

If absence makes the heart grow fonder, Gavin and Gwen should be able to keep their romantic flame burning bright this winter, since Bush will be touring the U.S. all through March.

The 22-date trek of mid-sized venues will begin February 28 in Denver at the Fillmore Auditorium. From there, Bush will play Midwest cities including Milwaukee on March 2, St. Louis on March 3, Chicago on March 5 and Detroit on March 8.

Then the band will head east, hitting Scranton, Pennsylvania; Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. between March 11 and 18. Bush will then wind across the South, performing in cities including Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on March 19; Atlanta on March 21; Sunrise, Florida, on March 23; and Dallas, Houston and San Antonio March 26, 27 and 28, respectively.

The tour will end on the West Coast with stops in Phoenix on March 30 and Los Angeles the next night. The last date is April 2 in San Francisco.

Bush will be touring to support their fourth album, Golden State, which was released October 23.
